Oaksedge Mansion

Oaksedge was originally a 200 acre estate acquired in 1936 by General Everett R. Cook, a long-time Memphian who founded Cook Industries, Inc. The name Oaksedge was selected by his son, Edward W. Cook, whose business and civic leadership played a major role in the growth of the Memphis region. Mr. Cook sold a portion of the property located on Park Avenue to a fellow cotton merchant, Hugo Dixon, who built the home which is now the cornerstone of The Dixon Gallery & Gardens. In the early 1950's, the Cooks sold the house and grounds to Jimmy Butler, a local grain commodities trader. Mr. and Mrs. Butler built the pool house in 1952 and lived in the residence for thirty years.

In 1983, Holiday Inns, Inc. purchased what was by then a 26 acre estate for its new corporate headquarters. The lush grounds and stately mansion represented an opportunity to create a unique campus-style office environment. The company opened the doors of its new headquarters in 1985, and subsequently evolved from Holiday Corporation to the Promus Companies and then to Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. In October of 1999, the complex was acquired by a partnership comprised of R. Brad Martin and his sons, Daniel Martin and Rawleigh Martin.

The two office buildings served as an operations center for Harrah's from 1995-2008 and the residence houses the personal office of Mr. Martin and his family investment company, RBM Venture Company. The current owners are pleased to be a part of the property's rich history, and in honor of Edward W. Cook, have renamed the estate "Oaksedge."

The respect and love which the Martin's feel towards this special campus is reflected in their management and ownership style, led by Rawleigh Martin. Being a great steward of this incredible and historical asset is of the utmost importance to the Oaksedge team and every aspect of the campus continuously gets the attention and respect it deserves.
